Silestone Home Additions & ADU: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide
Silestone quartz surfaces in Pasadena home additions and ADUs typically run $45,000-$130,000 for a complete addition with Silestone countertops installed, depending on square footage, structural work, and whether the project is a ground-up ADU or an attached room expansion. We stock and install Silestone across all major series for these projects, with slab selection and templating available in Pasadena within 48 hours of your initial scope meeting. Most Silestone failures we see in additions and ADUs are not the surface itself but the substrate or installation detail beneath it, which is why we document the existing structure before quoting.
Homeowners usually discover the problem when a seam opens, a crack propagates from an unsupported overhang, or discoloration appears where the slab meets a window wall in a Pasadena ADU. These symptoms almost always trace back to how the addition was tied into the original structure, not a defect in the Silestone.
Which Silestone Models This Applies To
We work with the full Silestone catalog for Pasadena additions and ADUs: the Eternal series (marble-look Calacatta Gold and Statuario), the Suede textured finish line, and the standard Polished series in thicknesses of 1.2 cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm. The 3 cm slab is what we spec for kitchen islands and perimeter counters in ADUs where the tenant will cook daily; 2 cm with proper substrate support works for bathroom vanities and wet bars in attached additions where space is tighter.
To identify your existing Silestone, check the underside edge for a printed batch code, or look for the Cosentino label left by the original fabricator, usually taped near the sink cutout. The series name matters for color matching if we are extending a counter into a new addition. Eternal series colors have been reformulated twice since 2018, so a 2019 Calacatta Gold will not match a 2024 slab exactly. We source from Cosentino’s West Coast distribution in City of Industry and keep current swatch sets on hand.
Rowan Construction Group Pasadena is an independent contractor and is not affiliated with Silestone or Cosentino. We specify Silestone when the project calls for it, but we also stock and install Cambria, Caesarstone, and other quartz surfaces.
Signs Your Silestone Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

- Hairline cracks at the sink or cooktop cutout. These start where the slab was weakened during fabrication and propagate when the addition settles slightly against the original structure. In Pasadena’s older neighborhoods like Bungalow Heaven, the 1920s framing flexes differently than the new addition, and that differential movement concentrates at cutouts.
- Seam separation or lippage. The epoxy bond between slabs fails when the substrate beneath shifts. We see this most often in garage conversions where the existing concrete slab was not leveled before the new cabinet and counter went in.
- Discoloration or whitening at the window wall. Direct southern exposure in a Pasadena ADU can degrade the resin in Silestone over time if the original installer did not account for UV load. The material itself is not rated for prolonged direct sun without mitigation.
- Sound change: hollow tapping where the slab used to ring solid. This means the silicone adhesion to the plywood substrate has failed, usually from moisture intrusion where the addition roof ties into the existing eave. Water migrates down, swells the substrate, and the slab detaches.
- Chipping at exposed edges, especially on islands with overhang. Silestone is hard but brittle; unsupported overhangs beyond 10 inches for 2 cm material or 12 inches for 3 cm will crack under point load. We spec corbels or a steel support frame when the design calls for more.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A Silestone countertop replacement within a Pasadena home addition or ADU runs $2,000-$6,500 for the countertop installation itself, pulled from our flat-price system. That range covers templating, fabrication, standard edge profiles, delivery, installation, and sink cutout. If the substrate beneath needs replacement due to moisture damage, add $800-$2,200 for plywood and labor. Structural support for overhangs, corbels, or steel brackets runs $300-$900 depending on span.
What drives the range: slab color and series (Eternal costs more than standard), linear footage, number of seams, and whether we are matching existing Silestone in the original house. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, you get a written line-item price before any work starts. The quote separates material, labor, and any substrate repair so you can see exactly what you are paying for. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation; Silestone’s own 25-year residential warranty covers the material against manufacturing defects.
DIY or Call Us?

There is no safe DIY path for Silestone installation in an addition or ADU. The slabs weigh 20-25 pounds per square foot for 3 cm material; a standard kitchen run is 600-900 pounds of brittle quartz that cracks if flexed wrong. Templating requires a digital or physical pattern accurate to 1/8 inch; fabrication needs a CNC or bridge saw with water suppression and diamond tooling. Even “removing the old counter yourself” is risky, because the sink plumbing, cooktop electrical, and dishwasher bracket all connect through the slab.
What you can safely check: look underneath for the batch code, photograph any cracks for our review, and verify whether your addition has a vapor barrier between the original structure and new framing. That last detail tells us a lot about what movement to expect.

FAQs
With proper installation and normal use, Silestone surfaces last 20-30 years in a Pasadena climate. The limiting factor is usually not the quartz but the installation detail: substrate movement, UV exposure on south-facing window walls, and thermal cycling where the addition meets unconditioned garage space. We address these in our scope before fabricating. Call (562) 203-4508 for an exact quote on your specific ADU layout.
Surface chips and small edge repairs can be filled with color-matched epoxy by a fabricator, but cracks through the body of the slab are not repairable to a structural or sanitary standard. The crack will reopen with thermal movement. We replace the affected section or the full run depending on seam location and color match availability. Call (562) 203-4508 and we will assess whether repair or replacement is the honest recommendation.
From template to install, typically 10-14 business days for standard colors in stock at City of Industry. Custom-order Eternal series colors add 3-4 weeks. The on-site installation itself is one day for most kitchen-sized runs, two days if we are also replacing substrate or adjusting cabinet alignment. We do not promise same-day turnaround on planned construction work; the template must be precise. Call (562) 203-4508 to schedule templating.
We do not stock full slabs in Pasadena; the inventory risk and breakage cost would inflate your price. We maintain active accounts with Cosentino’s regional distribution and with alternative suppliers for Cambria and Caesarstone, which lets us pull current stock levels and pricing before we write your quote. You select from our swatch library or visit any Pasadena-area showroom; we handle procurement at our trade pricing, passed through without markup. Call (562) 203-4508 to start the selection process.
