Silestone Kitchen Remodeling: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide

Silestone kitchen remodeling in Pasadena typically runs $14,000-$45,000 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing countertops on existing cabinets or gutting the space to the studs. We stock and install Silestone surfaces across all current series, and we carry the full KraftMaid and Wellborn cabinet lines that pair with them. Most Silestone jobs we quote in Pasadena move to install within two to three weeks of the signed scope, not months.

Homeowners usually find us after the damage is visible: a cracked or stained Silestone slab, water pooling at the sink seam because the silicone failed, or cabinets that no longer close square because the substrate beneath the counter has swollen. In older Pasadena kitchens, especially the 1920s bungalows around Bungalow Heaven, we often discover the Silestone was laid over particleboard that wasn’t rated for wet locations. The countertop looks fine; the structure underneath is the part that failed.

Which Silestone Models This Applies To

Silestone is manufactured by Cosentino in three thicknesses - 1.2 cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm - and not every Pasadena kitchen can accept every thickness without modifying cabinet height or appliance clearances. The 3 cm slab, which is what most of our Pasadena customers select for its edge profile options, weighs roughly 20 pounds per square foot. That load has to land on cabinets rated for it, or the boxes will rack over time.

Current series we work with include the Eternal line (marble-look finishes like Calacatta Gold), the Sunlit Days collection (lower silica formulation, relevant if indoor air quality is a concern), and the classic Silestone Color Series. Each has different slab dimensions; the Eternal line maxes out at 128″ × 63″, which matters in open-plan Pasadena kitchens where a single island run can exceed that. We check slab availability before we write the price, because a seam in the wrong place is a defect you live with for twenty years.

OEM Silestone is what we spec. There is no quality aftermarket equivalent for the material itself - it’s a proprietary quartz composite with 94% natural quartz and specific resin binders. What does have aftermarket options is the installation hardware: undermount sink clips, seam adhesive kits, and support brackets. We use Silestone-certified color-matched epoxy for seams and Cosentino-approved 100% silicone for sink and cooktop cutouts. Anything else voids the 25-year Silestone warranty, and we document that in the written scope so there’s no question later.

Signs Your Silestone Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your Silestone Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
  • Visible cracks at the sink or cooktop cutout. These are stress concentrators. The Silestone itself is strong, but the cutout edge is where thermal expansion and cabinet settling do their damage. In Pasadena, we see this most often where a 2 cm slab was used without proper support rods; the overhang flexes microscopically with every dishwasher cycle until it gives.
  • Water staining or darkening at the seam. Silestone is non-porous, but the seam epoxy isn’t. If the installer used a generic polyester resin instead of the Cosentino color-matched kit, moisture wicks in and the seam darkens from the inside out. We’ve reseamed three of these in Pasadena in the last eighteen months.
  • Cabinets out of square or drawers binding. The countertop didn’t fail - the substrate or the cabinet box beneath it did. Particleboard swells when the sink seal fails; MDF fares slightly better but still degrades. We pull the Silestone, replace the damaged boxes with KraftMaid plywood construction, and reinstall.
  • Chipping at the edge, especially on a pencil or bevel profile. This is almost always impact damage, but the 1.2 cm material chips more readily than 3 cm. If the chip is at a corner, we can sometimes do a color-matched epoxy repair; if it’s on a high-traffic edge, replacement is the honest recommendation.
  • The surface has lost its polish or shows etching. True etching on Silestone is rare - it’s acid-resistant, unlike marble - but harsh cleaners (abrasive powders, high-pH strippers) can micro-scratch the resin layer and dull the finish. We’ve restored polish on a few Pasadena jobs with diamond-pad refinishing, though replacement is sometimes more cost-effective.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Silestone kitchen remodel in Pasadena, our installed price range is $14,000-$45,000. That span reflects real variables: a countertop-only replacement on sound cabinets sits at the lower end; a gut renovation with layout changes, electrical relocation, and new KraftMaid or Wellborn boxes runs higher. We separate material from labor in every quote so you can see exactly what the Silestone slab costs versus the cabinet package versus the install labor.

Here’s how the components break down:

Component Pasadena Price Range
Full Kitchen Remodel $14,000 - $45,000
Small Kitchen Remodel $9,000 - $20,000
Cabinet Installation (KraftMaid/Wellborn) $4,000 - $13,000
Countertop Installation (Silestone) $2,000 - $6,500
Backsplash Installation $800 - $2,500
Kitchen Island Installation $3,000 - $10,000

What drives the range: slab thickness and color (Eternal line runs 15-20% above base colors), linear feet of counter, number of cutouts, whether we need to modify cabinet boxes, and whether the backsplash is tile or a Silestone slab continuation. Every quote includes the documented photo record, the written scope with line-item pricing, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone starts - no exceptions, no “call for a quote.”

DIY or Call Us?

DIY or Call Us?

There is no safe DIY path for Silestone installation. The material is brittle until fully supported; a 3 cm slab can crack under its own weight if picked wrong or if the cabinet deck isn’t perfectly level. We’ve been called to two Pasadena jobs where a homeowner’s installer - not even the homeowner themselves - cracked a $4,000 slab during the sink cutout. The waste is total.

What you can safely check yourself: whether the cabinet boxes are still square (diagonal measurements should match within 1/8″), whether the sink seal is intact (look for gaps in the silicone bead), and whether water is pooling anywhere it shouldn’t. What you should not attempt: lifting or moving slabs, cutting openings for sinks or cooktops, or grinding seams. The silica dust from dry-cutting quartz is a genuine respiratory hazard; our crews use wet-cutting equipment and proper extraction.
